The Cat Café Changing Lives In San Francisco

At KitTea Rescue & Lounge in San Francisco, the cats aren’t hidden away behind shelter bars. They’re lounging in sunny windows, meeting visitors on their own terms, and showing off the little quirks that can make someone fall in love.

The Mission District café was inspired by Japan’s cat café culture and built around a sweet idea: rescue cats deserve to be seen. For more than 11 years, KitTea has helped cats from tough situations, including strays, feral cats, and cats at risk of euthanasia.

The space also gives people a gentler way to connect with adoptable cats. Visitors can book lounge time, join cat-friendly events like movie nights or watercolor sessions, and support the nonprofit through donations, shopping, volunteering, or spreading the word.

KitTea works with San Francisco Animal Care & Control, shelters in California’s Central Valley, and even a rescue partner in Doha, Qatar. For the team, every adoption update is proof that a cozy room full of cats can do a lot of good.

Why Is My Cat Obsessed with the Sink?

Cats have a gift for choosing the least convenient nap spots. For some, that means the bathroom sink, where they curl up like it was custom-made for them.

Part of the appeal is the shape. A sink can cradle a cat’s body the way a box or small bed does, while giving them a slightly elevated view of the room. That makes it feel cozy and strategic, which is very on-brand.

Temperature can play a role, too. Porcelain and ceramic stay cool, so a sink may feel especially nice on a warm day or for a cat with a thick coat.

Then there’s the human factor. If you spend time at the sink brushing your teeth, washing your hands, or doing your routine, your cat may decide that’s where the attention happens.

Most sink lounging is harmless. But if your cat suddenly starts hiding there, seems stiff, or acts unlike themselves, it’s worth checking with your vet.

Breed Spotlight: Toy Bob

The Toybob has the kind of kittenish charm that never really goes away. This naturally small cat is known for its compact body, large expressive eyes, and short, kinked bobtail.

The breed began in Russia in 1983, after two stray cats with unusual tails produced a tiny male kitten named Kutciy. Even as an adult, he was mistaken for a kitten at a cat show, which helped inspire the Toybob name.

Despite their size, Toybobs aren’t fragile. They’re muscular, sturdy, agile cats with either short or semi-long plush coats.

Personality-wise, they’re affectionate, playful, and very people-focused. Toybobs often enjoy following their humans around, curling into laps, and sleeping in cozy spots like soft blankets or even under the covers.

They’re also social cats who usually enjoy company, including other pets. Their grooming needs are simple, but weekly brushing can help with seasonal shedding and make for a sweet bonding routine.

The Simple Way to Stop Peeing at Night

Waking up multiple times a night to use the bathroom isn't just frustrating—it's robbing you of the deep, restorative sleep your body needs. And it's not something you just have to live with.

Many women over 50 accept frequent nighttime urination as an inevitable part of aging. But recent research shows there's a natural solution that can help you sleep through the night again, without prescription medications or invasive procedures.
