Cat Companionship to the Rescue
When The Young and the Restless star Zuleyka Silver hit the gun range recently, things didnât quite go as planned. With protective eyewear and headphones on, she braved the booming soundsâuntil anxiety took over. Realizing she wasnât quite ready to channel her inner action hero, Silver decided to let her friends enjoy the shooting while she opted for a seat in the corner and a future gun safety class instead.
Thankfully, her emotional support cat, Hemmingway, was there to save the day. In a series of Instagram videos after her ordeal, she introduced the laid-back gray kitty. Silver joked that while Hemmingway is supposed to be her emotional support animal, she often feels like his emotional support human instead. With Hemmingwayâs fluffy belly and calming presence, she was able to find some much-needed comfort.
Despite the stressful experience, Silver reassured fans that she plans to conquer the range againâthis time with a classâand promised proof of her transformation into âLara Croft 2.0.â But until then, it looks like Hemmingway will be there to support (or boss around) his devoted human.

What is an Emotional Support Animal?
Emotional support animals (ESAs) come in all shapes and sizes, but letâs be honest, cats are the true masters of emotional support. With their soothing purrs and calming presence, theyâre perfect for easing anxiety, depression, and a whole range of mental health challenges. The best part? They donât need to do much besides being their adorable, aloof selves to help you feel better.
Almost any cat can step into the role of an ESA, from a lazy lap cat to one that loves to knock things off counters for fun. And while they donât have the same public access rights as service dogs, their ability to curl up on your lap and turn any bad day into a better one is worth more than any free flight. To make it official, youâll need an ESA letter from a licensed mental health professional, which grants you housing rightsâjust as long as your feline friend isnât using the neighborâs potted plants as a litter box.
Ultimately, cats bring all the emotional support you need just by being around, whether itâs their gentle paw taps or their judgmental stares reminding you to relax. So if youâre feeling overwhelmed, a cat might just be the perfect emotional support animal to cuddle, play with, or simply watch as they nonchalantly ignore all your problems.
