Cat CafƩ Event Blends Culture And Cat Adoption
A cat cafƩ in Topeka, Kansas recently hosted a community celebration that combined Japanese culture with its mission to help rescue cats find homes. The Topeka Cat CafƩ held its second annual Japanese Cultural Celebration at the Kay McFarland Japanese Garden, featuring cultural exhibits, food, dancing, martial arts demonstrations, and a silent auction.
The event reflected the cafĆ©ās connection to Japanese culture while giving visitors a chance to learn more about the organizationās rescue work. Guests explored the festival while also discovering ways to support local cats in need.
In the past year and a half, the cafƩ has helped facilitate about 700 cat adoptions, placing hundreds of rescue cats into new homes. Community events like this celebration help raise awareness and support so the cafƩ can continue its adoption efforts.

What Your Catās Litter Box Smell Could Mean
Cleaning the litter box isnāt anyoneās favorite chore, but sometimes the smell can feel unusually strong. While some odor is normal, extremely foul-smelling poop can sometimes point to an underlying issue, from diet changes to digestive trouble.
Food is one of the most common reasons. Switching your catās diet too quickly can upset their digestive system and lead to loose, extra-smelly stool. Some cats may also have sensitivities to certain ingredients, which can affect how their body processes food.
Other causes may include intestinal parasites, bacterial infections, or digestive disorders that interfere with nutrient absorption. These conditions can produce gas, inflammation, and stronger odors than usual. In some cases, medications or supplements may also affect digestion.
Litter box habits can also play a role. If a cat stops covering their waste, the smell may become more noticeable. In general, keeping the litter box clean and paying attention to sudden changes in stool smell or behavior can help identify when something may need a closer look from a veterinarian.

Meet Cat of the Day, Smokie
Meet Smokie, Daily Purr reader Shannonās energetic feline and an April Cat Of The Month finalist.
Smokie came from a neighborhood litter of six and quickly became the main character of the house. When heās not exploring cabinets or perched on shelves doing āresearch,ā heās launching into legendary late-night zoomies ā even jumping into the air to kick his cat ball like a tiny soccer star.
And after all that action, Smokie clocks in for his other specialty: serious biscuit-making.
