Just Like Truffles

Meet Truffles, the kitty with a heart of gold and a wardrobe of 25 pairs of glasses. Since 2017, Truffles has been working full-time at A Childā€™s Eyes, an optical shop in Mechanicsburg, PA, where her mission is simple: make wearing glasses cool for kids. After her owner, pediatric optician Danielle Crull, adopted her, Truffles proved to be a natural at everythingā€”including rocking a pair of tiny pink glasses. Now, she helps kids with eye conditions by showing them that if she can wear glasses with pride, they can too.

Truffles has become something of a celebrity, with her educational videos on eyeglass care and vision issues spreading far and wide. Sheā€™s even got her own non-profit and is using her influence to help kids across the globe feel more confident in their glasses. But despite her viral fame, Truffles is still just a regular office cat at heart, wandering the halls of A Childā€™s Eyes and helping out Crull whenever a patient needs some feline encouragement. And if that wasnā€™t enough, she now has a sidekickā€”Gumdrop, a glasses-wearing orange kitty who keeps her company in the office. Together, theyā€™re making first-time glasses fittings a whole lot more fun.

The Language of Catsā€™ Eyes

Cats may not speak our language, but their eyes certainly do all the talking. Unlike dogs, who are practically open books when it comes to body language, cats communicate through a refined and often mysterious system of blinks, twitches, and tail flicks. This can leave their humans scratching their headsā€”or worse, nursing scratchesā€”when they misread a cue. But with a little attention to those soulful kitty eyes, we can start to decode their hidden messages and avoid any claw-filled misunderstandings.

For instance, wide-open, squinty eyes with soft brows mean youā€™re in your catā€™s good books. On the flip side, a direct, unblinking stare might signal, ā€œIā€™m watching youā€¦ donā€™t mess this up.ā€ And if you see those pupils dilating like theyā€™ve just seen a ghost? Back away slowly. But hereā€™s the best part: if your cat gifts you with a slow, dreamy blink, itā€™s their version of blowing you a kiss. So be sure to blink back and let them know the love is mutual.

Understanding your catā€™s body language may feel like learning a new language, but with practice, youā€™ll be able to navigate the subtleties of those mesmerizing eyes. After all, who wouldnā€™t want to avoid a hissy fit and share some sweet, slow blinks instead?
