Town Cat Stars In Famous Art Trail

Thomas the town cat isn’t just a local favorite. He’s now a work of art, many times over. In Ramsey, Isle of Man, the Mannin Art Group marked its 75th anniversary by reimagining famous paintings with Thomas as the star.

Twenty of these feline-themed masterpieces are displayed in shop windows along Parliament Street. The art trail is part of a push to bring more visitors into town while celebrating the group’s long history.

Thomas, who was granted the freedom of the town last year, has been “unofficially adopted” by several local businesses. His daily wanderings have made him a familiar face to residents and tourists alike.

Organizers say the trail is designed to be fun, family-friendly, and educational, because what’s more inviting than a town’s most famous cat leading the way?

Why Are My Cats Grooming Each Other?

Cats don’t just groom themselves. They often groom each other, a behavior known as allogrooming. This starts in kittenhood when mothers lick their young to clean them, stimulate their bodies, and strengthen their bond. Littermates often follow suit, practicing on each other as they grow.

In adult cats, grooming can be about dominance, with higher-ranking cats often licking others around the head and neck, areas too vulnerable to clean during conflict. It can also be a clear sign of affection, especially when both cats are relaxed and purring.

For multi-cat homes, encouraging a calm environment, plenty of space, and shared scents can help turn grooming into a positive, trust-building ritual. When it’s mutual and peaceful, it’s one of the sweetest signs your cats truly get along.

Breed Spotlight: Somali

With their plumed tails, silky coats, and alert expressions, Somali cats are often called the “foxes” of the cat world. These medium-sized, athletic felines are packed with energy, intelligence, and curiosity, qualities that make them both entertaining and a little mischievous.

Somalis trace their roots to the Abyssinian, carrying a recessive longhair gene that gives them their signature flowing fur. While they love human company, they’re not lap cats. Instead, expect them to explore shelves, play fetch, or even learn simple commands when given the chance.

They need frequent play and puzzle toys, and regular grooming to keep their minds engaged. Left bored, a Somali will happily create their own “fun,” which might include climbing curtains or raiding counters.

Beautiful, rare, and full of personality, the Somali is best suited for households ready to match their energy and keep up with their playful spirit.
