How The Lowe’s Cat Went Missing
For eight years, Francine has been the heart of the Lowe’s on West Broad Street in Richmond, Virginia. The friendly white-and-tortie stray made the store her home, greeting shoppers and curling up in the aisles like she owned the place. But when she didn’t show up one morning in September, employees immediately knew something was wrong.
After checking security footage, the team discovered that Francine had accidentally hitched a ride on a delivery truck headed 85 miles away to the company’s North Carolina distribution center. A full-scale search followed, complete with 246 cameras and thermal drones, until Francine was finally spotted and safely trapped.
Her caregivers, Wayne and Mike, drove through the night to bring her home, where she was greeted like a celebrity. Francine is now back at her post (with a new harness and AirTag), enjoying endless pets from her fans—and hopefully staying put this time.

How to Prepare for Your New Cat’s Arrival
Bringing home a new cat is exciting, but it takes a little prep to help them feel safe and secure. Cats are sensitive to change, so creating the right environment from day one can make all the difference. Start by choosing a quiet room where your cat can adjust at their own pace. Stock it with essentials like food, water, a litter box, and a cozy spot to hide or nap.
Cats feel most comfortable when they can explore vertically, so adding a cat tree or shelf gives them a sense of control over their new territory. Scratching posts and toys are also must-haves.
Before your cat arrives, do a quick safety sweep. Hide cords, check for toxic plants, and secure small items or breakables. Make sure you’re stocked with basics like food, litter, grooming tools, and a sturdy carrier, plus consider setting up pet insurance early, just in case.
The goal is simple: create a calm, predictable space where your cat can explore, mark their scent, and slowly make your home their own.

Why Black Cats Deserve More Love This Halloween
Black cats have long been tangled up in superstition, especially around Halloween. Once seen as omens of bad luck or symbols of witchcraft, these sleek felines were unfairly feared for centuries. But behind the myths lies a very ordinary truth: black cats are just as sweet, smart, and loving as any other cat.
The bad rap dates back to medieval Europe, when fear and religion fueled stories of black cats as messengers of the devil. In reality, their only “crime” was being mysterious and independent—traits we now adore in our feline friends. Ironically, during outbreaks of disease like the plague, people hunted cats, not realizing they were getting rid of one of the best defenses against rats.
Today, black cats are still less likely to be adopted than others, but that’s slowly changing. Many cultures now see them as symbols of luck, love, and prosperity. Whether you believe in superstition or not, one thing’s certain: every black cat deserves a warm home and someone who sees their charm for what it really is.
