“The warmth of a cat is the warmth of home itself.”

Happy Friday:

True or False?

Cats can breathe only through their mouths.

Meet the UK’s Cat of the Year

Meet Fizz, the ginger cat who has taken the UK by storm. This adventurous feline has been crowned Cat of the Year, beating thousands of competitors.

Known locally as the “assistant director” at his community theatre, Fizz is often spotted slipping into rehearsals, wandering the supermarket aisles, or even interrupting the British Bowling Championships. His antics have made him a local celebrity, with fans affectionately calling him “Fizz Wanderer.”

Owner Briony Loder says his roaming ways once worried her, but now the town keeps watch. The postman often drops him home, and Briony admits she’s become his “mum taxi” when adventures run long.

Alongside the national title, Fizz also won the “most connected cat” award for uniting his community. Whether strutting across a theatre stage or strolling into the library, Fizz has turned everyday places into shared moments of joy.

Breed Spotlight: LaPerm

The LaPerm’s story began on an Oregon farm in the 1980s, when a bald kitten was born among an otherwise ordinary litter. Within weeks, she grew a soft, curly coat unlike anything seen before. Breeders noticed the trait repeating in later generations, and the LaPerm was born.

This breed stands out with coats ranging from loose waves to tight ringlets, in nearly every color and pattern. Some kittens even arrive bald or straight-haired, only to develop their signature curls later. Despite their unruly look, LaPerms are easy to groom. Most only need brushing a couple of times a week.

Personality-wise, LaPerms are affectionate, adaptable, and clever. They’re known for using their paws like little hands, batting at objects or even opening things. Curious explorers by day and lap snugglers by night, they strike a balance between playful mischief and cozy companionship.

Whether admired for their curls or their charm, LaPerms are as unique in personality as they are in appearance.

Signs Your Cat May Be Depressed

Cats can experience sadness and depression, and the signs can be subtle. Unlike people, they don’t show it through words, but changes in behavior often tell the story. Sleeping more than usual, hiding in unusual spots, neglecting grooming, or suddenly eating less are some of the red flags.

Depressed cats may also meow differently, scratch more, or avoid the litter box. Others become clingier than normal, while some withdraw completely. Since these changes can also signal illness, a vet check is always the first step.

Common causes include illness, injury, grief from losing a companion, or simple boredom. Indoor cats especially need enrichment. Think climbing spaces, toys, and windows to watch the world.

To lift a cat’s spirits, spend extra time together, rotate toys, and consider calming aids like pheromone diffusers. And if your cat’s mood doesn’t improve, a vet or behaviorist can help.
