New York Rescuers Race To Save Kitten on Tracks
A tiny kitten in Queens found itself in serious danger after wandering across the tracks at the Bayside train station. Rescuers spotted the kitten weaving between the rails, unaware that a train was just minutes away. After several failed attempts, they finally coaxed him close with food and used a leash pole to lift him to safety.
Wildlife rescuer John Debacker said they pulled the kitten up only five minutes before the next train arrived. He shared that waiting any longer could have turned the rescue into a recovery mission.
The dramatic save wasn’t Debacker’s only close call. Days earlier, he responded to another stranded kitten, this one perched high in a tall tree in Hempstead. Even with a 20-foot ladder, the kitten stayed just out of reach. As Debacker tried to lure it down with food, the frightened kitten slipped and fell toward the ground.
Both rescues show how quick thinking, calm nerves, and a little luck can mean everything for a cat in trouble.

The Easiest Way To Support Cat Digestion
Pumpkin might be the easiest digestive fix you can add to your cat’s routine. A small spoonful of plain canned pumpkin, not pie filling, provides enough fiber to keep things moving if your cat is feeling backed up. The same fiber also helps firm stool during bouts of diarrhea, making pumpkin useful on both ends of the spectrum.
Because it sweeps hair through the digestive tract, pumpkin can help reduce hairballs as well. Many cat parents notice fewer surprise “gifts” on the carpet once pumpkin becomes a daily habit.
It can even support weight loss. For cats who need to slim down, replacing part of their usual meal with pumpkin helps them feel full with fewer calories. Just keep the total amount under one tablespoon per day unless directed otherwise by a vet.
You can mix pumpkin into wet food, look for cat foods that already include it, or freeze tiny portions as treats. Simple, gentle, and cat-safe, pumpkin earns its reputation as a digestive cure-all.

The Only Cat To Ever Travel To Space
More than sixty years ago, a small black-and-white cat named Félicette made history as the first, and still only, cat to travel to space. France selected her from a group of shelter cats trained for suborbital missions designed to study how the body reacts to high G-forces. At the time, she was simply known as “C341,” one of the six cats who passed the rigorous tests.
On October 18, 1963, her rocket lifted off from a desert launch site, sending her about 97 miles above Earth. Inside her tiny capsule, Félicette endured intense acceleration on the way up and again during re-entry, before parachuting safely back to the ground just 13 minutes after launch.
Once the world learned of her successful flight, she finally received a name. Though her story didn’t end as kindly as it should have, her contribution eventually received long-overdue recognition. In 2019, a bronze statue of Félicette was unveiled in her honor.
