Did You Know…?

Why does my cat tap me with their paw but not use their claws?

Bobby Flay’s Cutest Dinner Guest Yet

Bobby Flay recently had a dinner guest unlike any other: a 16-year-old shelter cat named Missy. For their Dodo Dream Date, he cooked her a custom meal based on ingredients she chose herself.

Missy sniffed around Bobby’s kitchen before settling on chicken, pumpkin, and broccoli. While he cooked, she enjoyed treats from his cat food brand and kept a close eye on her plate.

When the dish was ready, Missy approved instantly. “I’ve cooked for presidents,” Flay said, “but making something for Missy meant just as much.”

Missy is still looking for her forever home through Paws Crossed Animal Rescue. With a five-star dinner under her belt, she just might be close.

Why Cats Instinctively Use Litter Boxes

Cats have a natural instinct to bury their waste, a behavior seen in both domestic and wild felines. This helps conceal their scent from predators and dominant cats, keeping them safe. Our indoor kitties retain this instinct, making litter box use feel natural to them.

In the wild, cats seek out soft, loose textures like soil or sand to dig and cover their waste, minimizing detection and territorial disputes (even tigers!). They also choose spots that feel safe—areas that are quiet, private, and away from food sources. When we provide a litter box with fine, soft-textured litter, effective odor control, and a location that offers privacy, our cats instinctively recognize it as the ideal place to go.

The right litter setup signals to our cats, “Ahh yes, this is the spot!” By mimicking their natural preferences, we make sure they feel secure, comfortable, and confident using their litter box every time.

Your Cats Favorite Cat Litter

When it comes to litter, your cat knows best. That’s why Tailfeather is designed with their natural instincts in mind.

Traditional clay litters that crystalline silica, a substance the CDC and OSHA classify as a known human carcinogen when inhaled in significant or repeated amounts. Tailfeather is made from coconut and cassava. This plant-based litter feels like a soft, natural texture similar to what cats would use outdoors—giving them the comfort they crave.

Tailfeather’s lightweight formula is 70% lighter than traditional litter, and is highly absorbant, with coconut husk holding up to nine times its weight in liquid.

Tailfeather is biodegradable and plastic-free, making it an eco-friendly choice that’s better for both your cat and the planet. And with packaging that’s recyclable, you can feel good about the entire product.

Each Tailfeather package lasts up to 8 weeks, twice as long as most other litters, and is conveniently delivered right to your door.

Breed Spotlight: Abyssinian

With oversized ears and a ticked coat that shimmers like sunlight, the Abyssinian cat has an ancient look and a very modern personality. Though one of the oldest known breeds, their exact origins remain a mystery. Some believe they came from Ethiopia, others say Southeast Asia, but wherever they began, they’ve clearly never lost their flair.

Despite their sleek, regal appearance, Abyssinians are known as the clowns of the cat world. They love to jump, play, and knock things off shelves, earning them the nickname “Aby-Grabbys.” And while they’ll follow you from room to room like a curious shadow, they’re not exactly lap cats. They want your company, not your cuddle.

Unlike many breeds, they’re perfectly content as solo cats. But don’t mistake their independence for disinterest. These cats thrive on attention from their humans and often bond deeply with their people. Their slim build, strong muscles, and high energy levels mean they need plenty of playtime and stimulation.

Whether you’re looking for a little mischief or a lot of movement, Abyssinians bring a spark of wild charm into any home. Just don’t expect them to nap through the afternoon: they’ll be too busy investigating the top of your fridge.
