In Enola, Pennsylvania, a bookstore is proving that cats and books make the perfect pair. Cupboard Maker Books isn’t just known for its shelves of stories. It’s home to resident cats who roam the aisles and even “author” their own adventures.

Annika, one of the store’s most famous felines, stars in The Very, Very Bad Misadventures of Annika the Reluctant Bookstore Cat. Her friend Mouse, who was born in the shop in 2020, has “written” three books of his own when he isn’t climbing shelves or chasing toys.

The store partners with Castaway Critters, a local rescue, to help more cats find forever homes. Visitors can browse novels, meet the resident cats, and even spot adoptable felines awaiting their families.

For Annika, Mouse, and their bookstore crew, life among the stacks is the perfect happily-ever-after.

Calico cats are famous for their bold looks and bold personalities. The internet often labels them as extra sassy, a trait dubbed “cat-tude.” But is there truth to it?
