How One Kitten Turned a Stray’s Life Around

When Menace, a once-stray cat, first settled into his new home, he carried a bit of his past with him. Quiet and moody, he lived up to his name by lounging alone or getting into minor mischief. His family worried he might never fully relax.

That changed the moment a tiny orange-and-white kitten named Dakota entered the picture. Almost instantly, Menace’s aloof demeanor melted away. Instead of lying around, he followed Dakota everywhere, acting curious, playful, and more engaged than ever.

Soon, the two were inseparable. They wrestled, chased, and curled up together in the sink or on the couch. Menace even took on the role of big brother, grooming Dakota and keeping her close.

For his family, the transformation was remarkable. The cat they once feared would reject a sibling had simply been waiting for the right companion. With Dakota by his side, Menace is thriving.

The Allergic Cat Lover’s Survival Guide

Being allergic to cats doesn’t always mean saying goodbye to whiskers and purrs. Most symptoms (sneezing, itchy eyes, and congestion) come from proteins in a cat’s saliva, dander, and urine.

Simple changes can help. Swapping carpets for hard floors, vacuuming with a HEPA filter, and washing curtains regularly all reduce allergens. Brushing your cat or gently wiping their coat can also make a big difference.

Some breeds, like the Sphynx, Devon Rex, and Siberian, tend to be easier for allergy-prone owners. And if medication helps you manage symptoms, you may find living with a cat is more comfortable than you thought.

With a little planning, allergy sufferers can still enjoy the headbutts, snuggles, and daily charm of a cat at home.

Meet Cat of the Day, Cassie

This is Cassie, a 10-week-old with a big personality packed into a tiny body. She was found as a stray alongside two other kittens before finding her forever home at a cat yoga event hosted by the SPCA and a local yoga studio.

Cassie is outgoing, clingy, and makes her needs known. She loves to yell for attention almost as much as she loves to nap.

She now has a 9-week-old mini dachshund sister named Callie, and the two are inseparable. Whether playing or cuddling, Cassie and Callie are already the perfect pair.
