Bobby Flay’s Cutest Dinner Guest Yet

Bobby Flay recently had a dinner guest unlike any other—a 16-year-old shelter cat named Missy. For their Dodo Dream Date, he cooked her a custom meal based on ingredients she chose herself.

Missy sniffed around Bobby’s kitchen before settling on chicken, pumpkin, and broccoli. While he cooked, she enjoyed treats from his cat food brand and kept a close eye on her plate.

When the dish was ready, Missy approved instantly. “I’ve cooked for presidents,” Flay said, “but making something for Missy meant just as much.”

Missy is still looking for her forever home through Paws Crossed Animal Rescue. With a five-star dinner under her belt, she just might be close.

Scientists Say Cats Feel Loss Like We Do

After her feline companion Shelby passed away, Tomiko didn’t just adjust—she grieved. She searched the house, meowed when alone, and clung to her humans more than ever. Now, new research shows she’s not alone.

A study from Oakland University surveyed hundreds of cat owners and found that many cats react visibly to the loss of a fellow pet. They might hide, vocalize more, seek affection, or lose interest in play. Cats who spent more time with the deceased pet were more likely to show signs of mourning, regardless of species or family relation.

In one case, a cat who lost her canine companion stopped eating and began frantically searching windows. Her family brought home a new puppy, and for the first time in days, the cat finally ate again, signaling a slow step toward healing.

As for Tomiko, her mourning continues. She still checks Shelby’s favorite spots and recently peeked inside her old backpack, as if hoping she'd be there. It’s a quiet reminder: cats form deep emotional bonds, and those bonds don’t disappear overnight.

Breed Spotlight: Abyssinian

With oversized ears and a ticked coat that shimmers like sunlight, the Abyssinian cat has an ancient look—and a very modern personality. Though one of the oldest known breeds, their exact origins remain a mystery. Some believe they came from Ethiopia, others say Southeast Asia, but wherever they began, they’ve clearly never lost their flair.

Despite their sleek, regal appearance, Abyssinians are known as the clowns of the cat world. They love to jump, play, and knock things off shelves—earning them the nickname “Aby-Grabbys.” And while they’ll follow you from room to room like a curious shadow, they’re not exactly lap cats. They want your company, not your cuddle.

Unlike many breeds, they’re perfectly content as solo cats. But don’t mistake their independence for disinterest—these cats thrive on attention from their humans and often bond deeply with their people. Their slim build, strong muscles, and high energy levels mean they need plenty of playtime and stimulation.

Whether you’re looking for a little mischief or a lot of movement, Abyssinians bring a spark of wild charm into any home. Just don’t expect them to nap through the afternoon—they’ll be too busy investigating the top of your fridge.

Don’t let a surprise vet bill torpedo your budget

Routine vet checkups are rising, and some surgeries can cost as much as a holiday in Europe. Fortunately, pet insurance can help offset these unexpected costs. With some policies starting at $10 and reimbursing up to 90%, you can keep your pet healthy without sacrificing your savings.
