April Cat Of The Month: Mr. Belvedere
You voted and the results are in. Mr. Belvedere is officially our April Cat Of The Month.
This almost 5-year-old charmer won readers over with his one-of-a-kind personality. A little aloof at first, Mr. Belvedere does things his own way, including how he shows affection. Hands might get a swipe, but lean in for a head-to-head hello and you will be met with endless head butts.
With his tiny meow and big presence, it is no surprise he stood out among this month’s finalists.
Congratulations to Mr. Belvedere, a very deserving winner. 👑🐾

How to Clean Your Cat Without Cat Shampoo
It always seems to happen at the worst time. Your cat gets into something messy, and there’s no cat shampoo in sight. Reaching for your own shampoo might feel like the easiest option, but it can dry out your cat’s skin and cause irritation.
Instead, a few household items can work in a pinch. A gentle, fragrance-free baby shampoo is one of the safest swaps for a full bath. For smaller messes, pet-safe wipes or water-based wipes can help clean things up without the stress of bathing.
If your cat has gotten into something oily or sticky, diluted Dawn dish soap can help break it down. Pure castile soap is another mild option, especially for sensitive skin. Both should be rinsed thoroughly to avoid any leftover residue.
For cats who refuse water altogether, dry options can help. Baking soda or cornstarch can absorb odors when brushed through the coat. They won’t fix heavy messes, but they’re a quick way to freshen things up when needed.

Does Your Cat Litter Sit in a Landfill Forever?
Most traditional cat litters are made from strip-mined clay or silica. Both end up in landfills when thrown away and are not biodegradable.
A new natural cat litter called Tailfeather is changing this with their eco-friendly, plant-based, clumping cat litter made from cassava.
Why cassava? It clumps extra hard for easy, clean scooping, clumps lift right out without sticking to the box. It's also much lighter than clay and produces far less dust.
It's fully biodegradable and 100% plastic-free, including the packaging. Tailfeather is delivered conveniently to your door, and each package lasts for 8 weeks, double the amount of other litters.

The Kitten Who Felt Like a Balloon
When a stray kitten named Zoe arrived at Palm Springs Animal Shelter, something immediately seemed off. Her body looked unusually puffed up, and when staff picked her up, they realized why: it felt like holding a balloon.
A veterinarian quickly diagnosed her with subcutaneous emphysema, a condition where air becomes trapped under the skin, likely caused by an injury. While rare in such a young kitten, it’s treatable, and the team began carefully removing the air over time.
Despite everything, Zoe acted like any other kitten. She ate well, played, and sought attention from her caretakers, earning the nickname “Puffkitty” along the way.
Now, most of the swelling has gone down, and her outlook is strong. As she continues to recover, Zoe is expected to move into a foster home before eventually being adopted.
