🐈 How cat lovers are winning the allergy battle

Tuesday 12/17 - Sponsored by Pacagen - Cat on car, partner allergic to cats hacks, COTD

“There’s no such thing as personal space when you live with a cat—and that’s the way it should be.”

Happy Tuesday:

True or False?

Some cat breeds are hypoallergenic.

Rifki the Cat Turns A Car Into His Home

Every morning, Aynuse Ceylan finds a familiar face perched proudly on her car—a bold local cat in Turkey named Rifki who’s claimed her vehicle as his personal hangout. His striking appearance and fearless attitude have made him a memorable part of Ceylan’s daily routine.

Their encounters began shortly after Ceylan moved into her apartment. One morning, she found Rifki lounging on her car and tried to shoo him away. But Rifki, as she quickly learned, doesn’t back down. “He is obsessed with my car,” Ceylan said. “He believes it’s his.” From that day on, Rifki decided the car was his territory, returning every morning to claim his spot—whether Ceylan liked it or not.

Rifki’s attachment doesn’t stop at the car—he’s also figured out where Ceylan lives and visits her doorstep when he’s hungry. She admits that she’s started feeding him—even though she never signed up for the job.

Despite his demanding ways, Ceylan has come to accept him. “I’ve accepted Rifki in his psychotic state,” she said with a laugh. “He’s a free spirit.”

For Ceylan, Rifki’s antics have become a charming, if slightly chaotic, part of her day—proving that sometimes, the animals who choose us leave the biggest impression.

Love Your Cat But Your Partner’s Allergic?

Sharing your life with your partner and cat can be wonderful—unless allergies get in the way. But an allergy doesn’t have to mean choosing between your relationship and your feline friend. With a little effort and compromise, you can create a comfortable home for everyone:

  • Discuss Allergen Products: Allergen-combatting sprays or products can be effective for many people struggling with cat allergies. Discuss options with your partner to find what works best.

  • Create Cat-Free Zones: Designate areas, such as the bedroom, where your cat isn’t allowed. This gives your partner a space to breathe easily and avoid allergens.

  • Upgrade Your Cleaning Routine: Regular vacuuming (especially with a vacuum designed for pet hair) and wiping down surfaces can reduce dander build-up. Launder bedding, curtains, and throw pillows often.

  • Groom Your Cat Regularly: Brushing your cat frequently can help reduce shedding and dander. For even more impact, consider bathing your cat occasionally if they’re comfortable with it.

Finding a balance that works for everyone takes patience and understanding, but it’s worth it to keep both your relationship and your bond with your cat strong.

Cat of the Day: Dutchess

Today’s featured feline comes from Daily Purr reader Regena, who shared her adorable cat, Dutchess—though she’s also known as "Lady Cat."

Dutchess is the definition of cozy, and she knows how to soak up the spotlight. As the only cat in her home, she enjoys being the center of attention and wouldn’t have it any other way. Whether she’s lounging in her favorite spot or accepting all the love she can get, Dutchess clearly lives up to her royal name.
