Meet the Cat Who Herds Sheep in Ireland
Sheepdogs may get all the attention, but one Irish cat is proving that herding support can come in the form of a talented cat. Meet Bodacious, a farm cat whoâs become a beloved presence among a flock of Zwartbles sheep in Kilkenny, Ireland. His owner, Suzanna Crampton, says heâs more of a moral support than a working shepherd, but donât tell Bodacious that.
Whether it's middle-of-the-night lambing or quiet moments in the field, Bodacious keeps Suzanna company through the highs and lows of farm life. Heâs often perched on her lap during tough nights, offering calm and warmth in the form of steady purring. Photos of him patrolling the fields or napping beside his sheep companions have earned him a loyal online followingâand his own calendar.
The sheep Bodacious watches over arenât your everyday flock. Zwartbles are a rare Dutch breed with striking black wool and white markings, and they were recently introduced to Ireland. Thanks to Bodaciousâs spotlight, more people are learning about these gentle sheepâand the unexpected cat who keeps them company.
Bodacious may not herd in the traditional sense, but his presence is clearly a help to both the flock of sheep and his owner.

How to Survive Kitten Chaos as a New Pet Parent
Bringing home a new kitten? Expect cuteness, chaos, and a learning curve. The early days can be a lot, but a few smart steps will help set you (and your kitten) up for success.
Digestive issues are common early on, especially with a change in diet or environment. Starting with a probiotic can help ease the transition, and itâs worth booking a vet visit in the first week or two. Bring a stool sample if you canâchecking for parasites early is important, especially if there are other pets in the home.
Kittens also need structure. Daily playtime, a consistent routine, and plenty of enrichment go a long way. If your kitten is acting out, it may be boredom or a lack of stimulation. Experts often suggest adopting two kittens to keep each other company. If thatâs not possible, climbing towers, puzzle toys, and interactive play can help fill the gap.
Socializing earlyâthrough gentle handling, new experiences, and positive interactionsâcan also make a big difference. And if youâre feeling a little lost? Thatâs completely normal. Vets and behaviorists are great resources to help you along the way.
