On a cold December evening, Madison heard a faint meow outside her barn. When she opened the door, a fluffy black cat walked right in and settled near the fire, as if he’d always belonged there. Madison was immediately charmed by the friendly stranger, who seemed determined to stay.

Having recently lost her cat Rick, Madison couldn’t help but feel the timing was meant to be. The new arrival, who they soon named Reginald (or Reggie), brought comfort and joy to Madison and her family during a difficult time. His affectionate nature and instant connection with the family made it clear he had found his forever home.

After a clean bill of health from the vet, he quickly adjusted to life with his new family. He bonded immediately with Buster, one of Madison’s other cats, though Cheddar, the younger feline, remains a little wary. Still, Reggie’s playful and loving personality has already brightened the home.

As Reggie spends his days snuggling and exploring, Madison reflects on how much joy he’s brought to their lives. “It’s special that Reggie came to us after losing Rick,” she said. “He’s exactly what our family needed.” Have you ever had a pet find you when you needed them most?

Cats might look cozy in their fur coats, but they’re not as equipped for cold weather as you might think. With body temperatures slightly higher than ours (around 100 to 102 degrees Fahrenheit), they feel the chill sooner than we do. If your cat is shivering, curling into a tight ball, or constantly seeking out warm spots, they’re probably too cold and need a little extra care.

Here are some simple ways to keep your cat warm this winter:

• Create a warm space: Indoor cats love cozy beds in draft-free spots or near a safe heat source. Outdoor cats need insulated shelters that keep them protected from wind, rain, or snow.

• Consistently replenish fresh water: Hydration is essential for regulating body temperature. If your cat spends time outdoors, consider using a heated water bowl to keep it from freezing.

• Offer nutrient-rich meals: Cats burn more energy by staying warm in cold weather, so giving them nutrient-rich food can help them maintain their energy and comfort.

Even cats with thick coats, like Maine Coons or Norwegian Forest Cats, have limits when it comes to the cold. If it’s under 45°F, it’s best to keep your cat inside or ensure they have a safe, warm shelter.
