Penelope Took an Unexpected Trip—And Made It Home

Penelope, a well-known neighborhood cat, never missed a warm bed when the temperatures dropped. So when she didn’t come inside on the coldest night in nearly a year, her family knew something was wrong. Jennifer, who had recently microchipped her, searched everywhere, but Penelope had vanished.

Days later, an animal control officer called with good news. Penelope had hopped into a visitor’s car, unknowingly hitching a ride miles away. When the driver finally noticed her, Penelope refused to leave, leading them to take her to a nearby fire station. That’s when animal control scanned her microchip and contacted Jennifer.

Penelope was soon back where she belonged, to the relief of her entire community. Now, she wears a GPS tracker in addition to her microchip, ensuring she’s never lost for long again.

According to Jennifer, it’s hard to imagine the neighborhood without Penelope, so we are thankful she returned home safely! Penelope’s story also goes to show the importance of microchips in pets so we can track them down if they ever get lost.

3 Ways Your Cat Can Help You Feel Less Stressed

Feeling stressed? Science says your cat can help!

Purring Power – Research shows that cat purrs vibrate at frequencies (25-150 Hz) that can lower stress, reduce blood pressure, and even promote healing.
Petting & Oxytocin – Stroking your cat releases oxytocin, the "bonding hormone," which decreases cortisol (the stress hormone) and promotes relaxation.
Routine & Comfort – Cats thrive on routine, and their consistent presence can provide stability, reducing anxiety and improving overall mental well-being.

Science proves it—your cat isn’t just cute, they’re a natural stress reliever!

Should You Use Baby Talk With Your Cat?

Does your cat ignore you when you call them? You might just need to change your tone.

A recent study found that cats respond more when their humans use a soft, higher-pitched voice—similar to how people talk to babies. But if a stranger tries it? They won’t get the same reaction.

Researchers observed cats listening to different voices and tones, noting their responses like ear twitches, tail movements, or stopping what they were doing. The results were clear: cats recognize and react to their parent’s voices, especially when spoken to in a sing-song or affectionate tone. But with unfamiliar voices, they remained uninterested.

However, not all experts are convinced baby talk is the secret. Many believe cats simply respond to what they know. If your cat is used to a steady, calm voice, that might work better than an exaggerated tone. The key is consistency—using the same words or motions to reinforce communication.

So, should you start using baby talk with your cat? It depends on them. Some may love it, while others just appreciate hearing your familiar voice. How does your cat feel about baby talk?
