How Instagram Helped Archie Find a Home

Archie arrived at a New York shelter as a feral kitten and quietly spent the next 13 years there, watching other cats come and go. Despite being gentle with fellow felines, Archie was too fearful of people to be considered adoptable—until a volunteer shared his story online.

After his closest companion, Eddie, was adopted, Archie became withdrawn. In a heartfelt holiday post, Eddie ā€œwroteā€ a letter to Santa asking someone to give Archie a home. The post went viral. One follower in Chicago saw it, and despite the distance—and Archie’s shy nature—she stepped up.

Supporters quickly raised the funds needed to transport Archie across state lines. Two volunteers drove him all the way to Chicago, posting updates that had thousands cheering him on.

Now, Archie is adjusting to his new home. He still prefers his space, but he’s making progress—spending time near his new siblings and even sneaking closer for treats. His adopter says she’s happy to give him the quiet, understanding home he deserves. For Archie, after 13 years of waiting, this really is a forever home.

Today’s Cat of the Day, Teo

Daily Purr reader Joanne introduces Teo, the very loved ā€œgrand-kittenā€ who recently got a thoughtful gift—his own pot of cat greens. His cat-mom wasted no time planting them, hoping it’ll redirect his energy from knocking succulents off the windowsill to something a little less… destructive.

Teo’s curious and playful nature is clear, and he’s already sizing up his new leafy snack with interest. If all goes according to plan, the succulents might just survive another week.

Thanks, Joanne, for sharing Teo’s latest upgrade! Want to see your cat featured as the Daily Purr Cat of the Day? Send in a photo and some fun facts about your kitty—they might be next!

What to Know About Clingy Cat Behavior

When your cat starts following you from room to room, sleeping on your keyboard, and pawing at your leg for constant attention, it might feel like a sudden shift. And it probably is. Cats are creatures of habit, so even small changes, like a new work schedule or rearranged furniture, can throw them off and lead to clingier behavior.

Some cats get clingy when they're bored or stressed. Others may be reacting to a recent change in the home, such as a new pet, loud renovations, or simply less one-on-one time. If your cat’s neediness seems out of character or is paired with other behavioral changes, it’s worth checking in with your vet to rule out anything medical.

In the meantime, you can gently encourage independence by sticking to a consistent daily routine. Offer engaging toys, window perches, and solo playtime activities. Make sure they’re mentally stimulated and know when to expect food, play, and attention.

Cats don’t always have the words, but clinginess is often their way of communicating. Understanding what’s driving the behavior can help you support them without sacrificing your space.
