Your Cat Thinks You Forgot to Feed Them—Again

If your cat is yowling for breakfast an hour early (or late), don’t take it personally—daylight saving time isn’t on their radar. Unlike humans, cats don’t run on clocks. Their internal schedule is based on light, hunger, and routine, which means our twice-a-year time shifts make zero sense to them.

Cats have circadian rhythms that tell them when it’s time to wake up, eat, and sleep. When we change the clocks, they don’t reset overnight. They’ll still expect breakfast at the same time their stomach tells them, even if the clock says otherwise.

To help your cat adjust, try shifting their schedule gradually. Moving meals, playtime, and bedtime by 10–15 minutes each day can make the transition smoother. Keeping a consistent daily routine also helps them settle into the new rhythm.

Some cats adapt quickly, while others take a few days to accept the change. Either way, don’t be surprised if you get an early morning wake-up call—your cat’s just doing what feels right!
