A recent study found that owning a cat or dog can make you just as happy as being married, or getting an $89,000 raise. Researchers surveyed thousands of people about their relationships, health, and satisfaction, then compared responses from pet owners to those without pets.

The results showed that people with pets reported significantly higher life satisfaction and emotional well-being. Pet owners also tended to be more open, extroverted, and conscientious, suggesting a strong connection between personality and the benefits of animal companionship.

While relationships can be complicated, a loyal pet offers simple, unconditional love, and it turns out that joy might be just as valuable as a lifelong partnership.
