Honoring Jess

At a train station in Andover, England, Jess the cat was more than just a furry faceā€”he was a local legend. For 13 years, this black-and-white charmer made the station his home, greeting passengers with his gentle presence, and catching a nap in the ticket office whenever he felt like it. Originally misnamed Jessica (because everyone assumed he was a lady), Jessā€™s transition from stray to beloved station mascot was nothing short of heartwarming. Now, to honor the memories of Jess's daily platform strolls and snoozes, a life-size statue of him has been crafted by sculptor Amy Goodman. This meow-sterpiece was recently unveiled in the stationā€™s booking hall, which was his favorite spot to relax.

Station staff couldnā€™t be more thrilled about the tribute. Described as a cat who could lift spirits no matter how long your commute, Jess left a paw-shaped void in the hearts of everyone who knew him. Ticket clerk Tracey Jones, who watched the stationā€™s beloved cat brighten countless days, was overjoyed by the statueā€™s likeness, stating that Jessā€™s gentle soul lives on in bronze form. Now, even though the platform is a little quieter without him, the new sculpture ensures Jess will continue to keep travelers company, immortalized in the station he called home.

Easy Outdoor Cat Tunnel

If your cat craves adventure but you're not keen on them channeling their inner jungle cat unsupervised, an outdoor tunnel is the purr-fect solution. Plus, it can easily connect to your existing cat palace. Your feline friend can safely prowl the great outdoors while you relax knowing they wonā€™t come home with a squirrel buddy.

Supplies:

  • Galvanized wire mesh

  • Black vinyl tubing 3/4ā€³

  • Durable zip ties

  • 90-degree elbow PVC fittings, 3/4ā€³ size

  • Spring snap hook carabiner steel clips

  • Solid steel tent pegs or garden stake

  • Hammers, pliers, and wire cutters

Instructions:

  1. Shape the wire mesh into a tunnel. If youā€™re using 48ā€ wide mesh, it will fold perfectly into a 16ā€ x 16ā€ tunnel. The length of the tunnel will depend on your desired setup.

  2. Cut the tubing to the same length as your tunnel. You will need two pieces for each side of the wire mesh. Zip ties can be used every 12ā€ to secure the tubing to the wire mesh.

  3. Use the zip ties and elbow fittings to connect the tunnel at any corners.

  4. Determine where your tunnel entrance will be located. The tunnel can attach to a catio if desired.

  5. Once the tunnel is in place with the entrance in the right location, use the tent pegs to secure the tunnel to the ground. Pegs can be placed every 12-15ā€ and are easily removed if you need to mow the lawn or move the tunnel.

  6. After securing the tunnel, you can open the entrance and let your furry friend safely explore his new backyard adventure zone.

Famous Felines Around the World

Itā€™s a classic tale of right time, right placeā€”just ask Willow, the green-eyed stray who strutted her way into the White House after crashing a Joe Biden rally in Pennsylvania. One moment, sheā€™s a curious kitty onstage, the next, sheā€™s making herself at home with soon-to-be First Lady Jill Biden. But Willow isnā€™t the only feline living the high life in an iconic location. Cats like Lilibet, the luxurious resident of Londonā€™s Lanesborough Hotel, and Larry, the legendary Chief Mouser of 10 Downing Street, have turned famous addresses into their own personal playgrounds.

From grand palaces to cozy coffee shops, these four-legged wonders have a knack for winning hearts and claiming prime real estate. Take the cats of Russia's Hermitage Museum, where a squad of 80 fluffy employees keeps pests in check, or the six-toed descendants of Hemingwayā€™s beloved cat, Snow White, who lounge like literary royalty at the Hemingway House in Key West. Whether itā€™s tracking lineage in a ā€œCat Bibleā€ or snuggling up to patrons at a coffee shop in Puerto Rico, these whiskered residents are more than just part of the decorā€”theyā€™re the stars of the show.

Famous Cat Statues

From seafaring adventurers to local legends, cats have claimed their spot in history. There are several statues of famous felines, from the luck-bringing Maneki-neko in Japan to the heroic Mrs. Chippy in New Zealand. Itā€™s a global catwalk like no other, and these cool cats are ready to show off their paws-itively legendary lives.
