It started with a soft cry coming from a dumpster on a rainy day. Frank, just passing by, stopped to look—and found a tiny, drenched kitten clinging to life. Without a second thought, he scooped him up.

At home, Frank dried the kitten off, gave him food, and offered warmth and comfort. He named him Clyde. From that first night, Clyde seemed to know he was safe. Just a few days later, he rode on Frank’s shoulders to the vet, wide-eyed but brave.

If you spot a patchy gray cat with piercing eyes and scruffy fur, you might be looking at a Lykoi. Known as the “werewolf cat,” the Lykoi is a relatively new breed that started from a natural genetic mutation about 20 years ago. The name “Lykoi” comes from the Greek word for wolf, and the look fits.

Despite their eerie charm, Lykoi cats are playful, curious, and surprisingly affectionate. Descended from feral cats, they still have strong hunting instincts and love exploring. They don’t typically sit on laps for hour,s but are loyal companions who form strong bonds with their people.

Their coat is semi-hairless and sheds more than you’d expect. Because of their sensitive skin and patchy fur, they need regular but gentle grooming.

Lykois do best indoors and in homes with plenty of stimulation. They get along with respectful kids and pets, but small animals, like hamsters or fish, should be kept safely out of reach.
