Train Station Cats Ride Into History
At Huddersfield Station in West Yorkshire, England, pest control has long had a whiskered twist. Felix, a black-and-white beauty, was hired as “Senior Pest Controller” in 2011 at just six weeks old. Her role quickly grew beyond rodent patrol. She became a commuter favorite, raising money for charity, and even starred in books about her adventures.
By 2019, Felix was mentoring her apprentice, Bolt, a sleek black cat with a serious work ethic. Together, they patrolled platforms, greeted passengers, and built a devoted online fan base. Felix passed away in 2023, but her legacy lived on through Bolt.
In July 2025, Bolt retired to a cozy home with his “station mum” and a feline friend, Buddy. Major renovations at the station made it the perfect time for his well-earned rest.
Whether a new recruit will join Huddersfield’s roster is unknown, but for commuters, Felix and Bolt will always be part of the station’s story.

How to Help a Cat With Dementia
Cats can experience dementia, much like people do. As the brain ages, changes in memory, learning, and awareness can cause confusion, behavior shifts, and anxiety.
Symptoms can appear slowly. You might notice your cat seems lost in familiar spaces, has changes in sleep patterns, uses the litter box less consistently, or becomes more vocal at night. Some cats withdraw from family, while others become extra clingy.
While it can’t be cured, early support makes a difference. Enrichment is key. New toys, gentle play, and small challenges can help keep their mind active. Adjusting your home can also help: keep food, water, and litter boxes easily accessible, add ramps for high spots, and use nightlights for better visibility.
With patience, routine, and guidance from your vet, many cats with dementia can still enjoy a comfortable, happy life in their golden years.
