Four Orange Kittens Take Over a Distillery
They weren’t looking for cats, but the cats had other plans. When staff at Kentucky’s Jeptha Creed Distillery opened a bale of hay in 2017, four tiny orange kittens came tumbling out. Cold, hungry, and clearly abandoned, the kittens were in rough shape. The team immediately sprang into action.
With no sign of a mother cat, employees began bottle-feeding the litter, just weeks old at the time. They named the kittens Malt, Wheat, Barley, and Rye, after ingredients in the distillery’s spirits. Though they were tiny and underweight, all four girls pulled through.
Today, they’re fully grown, copper-coated queens of the property. They lounge in their catio by day and serve as rodent security by night. Guests love them, and they’ve become unofficial mascots of the business.
And there’s one more twist: all four are female, which is rare for orange cats. Only about 1 in 5 orange cats are girls, making this bonded quartet even more special.

Meet Cats of the Day, Paul and Mary
Meet Mary and Paul, a dynamic sibling duo born in January 2018. Paul (down below) is the steadfast base of this tower team, while Mary (up top) prefers the high ground and the spotlight.
Their human, Jean, calls them the loves of her life, and it’s not hard to see why. With matching golden tabby coats, perfectly synced lounging skills, and a sibling bond that’s clearly built on trust (and maybe a little bossiness from Mary), these two are everything we love about cat companionship.

Is It Time for Your Cat’s Checkup?
Cats may not love the carrier, but regular vet visits are key to keeping them healthy. Kittens usually need about five trips their first year for vaccines, exams, and surgery. After that, once-a-year checkups are the norm for adult cats.
Senior cats (10 and up) should go twice a year. Age brings higher risks of things like thyroid disease, arthritis, or dental problems. These visits help catch issues early before your cat starts showing signs.
A typical checkup includes a full exam, vaccine updates, and possibly bloodwork. If vet visits feel stressful (for either of you), try leaving the carrier out with treats ahead of time.
Staying consistent with care helps your cat feel better long-term and makes it easier to handle surprises when they pop up.

Pet Insurance Could Help You Offset Rising Veterinary Costs
Veterinarians nationwide reported that corporate managers pushed clinics to focus on profit, with vets often paid based on revenue. This encouraged them to see more pets, order more tests, and upsell services, creating a growing burden for uninsured pet owners. Pet insurance could help you offset some of these rising costs, with some providing up to 90% reimbursement. View Money’s top pet insurance picks to see plans starting at only $10/month.
