Meet Cat of the Day, Ryot Angelica

Meet Ryot Angelica, a tiny kitten who changed everything. Found at just 3–4 weeks old and still on milk, Ryot quickly made it clear she wasn’t going anywhere. From the very beginning, she seemed to know exactly how to be a cat: figuring out toys, supplies, and her new world like a pro.

Once she was safe, clean, and tick-free, Ryot stepped fully into her role as the true princess of the house. For a lifelong dog household, she was the surprise ruler no one saw coming. Small, fearless, and full of personality, Ryot Angelica proved that sometimes the tiniest cats make the biggest impressions.

How Sharp Is Your Cat’s Memory

Cats may not remember every detail of kittenhood, but their memory is sharper than many people expect. Like humans, cats don’t tend to form lasting memories during their earliest weeks, though memory develops quickly once they’re a bit older.

Research shows cats can remember problem-solving skills for months and recall where food was located after short delays. These memories are closely tied to survival, comfort, and routine rather than random details.

Emotion plays a big role. Cats are more likely to remember experiences that made them feel safe, startled, rewarded, or stressed, which helps explain why certain sounds, people, or places trigger strong reactions.

As cats age, memory can fade, just as it does in people. Keeping daily routines consistent, offering play and mental stimulation, and watching for changes in behavior can help support brain health.

In the end, cats remember what matters most to them. If an experience doesn’t affect their comfort or safety, it probably doesn’t make the cut.

The Kitten Who Chose Her Campers

When Francesca and Alex Nardi went camping in the Agafay Desert in Morocco, they didn’t expect company. But a tiny orange kitten had other plans, appearing outside their tent and refusing to leave their side.

The kitten followed them around the campsite, rubbed against their legs at dinner, and popped out of the bushes as they walked back to their tent at night. Eventually, she climbed into Alex’s lap, fell asleep, and started purring.

The couple soon realized the kitten, later named Zahra, needed medical care. With help from a local veterinarian, she was treated, vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped before beginning a complicated journey to New Jersey.

Zahra’s story didn’t stop there. Inspired by her rescue, Francesca partnered with ADAN to support a trap-neuter-vaccinate-release program for cats living at the same desert camp, turning one kitten’s persistence into something much bigger.
