Why Is My Cat…?

Why is my cat trying to dart out every time I open the door?

Meet Cat of the Day, Cream Puff

Meet Cream Puff, a 12-year-old domestic medium hair with the fluff, charm, and name to match. Reader Mark rescued him nearly six years ago, and the two have been inseparable ever since.

Cream Puff is a full-time lap cat and a part-time belly rub enthusiast, on his terms, of course. Whether he's curled up in a cozy spot or soaking up attention, he's a sweet reminder of the quiet joy a rescue can bring.

Cat Bathroom Habits Explained

Cats are known for their quirks, and their litter box habits are no exception. From guarding the box to boycotting new litter, their behavior often leaves humans confused. But many of these odd routines actually make sense once you dig into them (pun intended).

Here are a few strange habits with surprising explanations:

  • Suddenly skipping the box: This can signal a medical issue, especially if your cat was previously consistent.

  • Peeing next to the box: Usually a sign that something’s wrong, like a box that’s too small, dirty, or covered.

  • Only using a clean box: Your cat might jump in immediately after you scoop to re-mark their turf.

  • Pooping and peeing in different boxes: Totally normal! Many cats prefer to keep those tasks separate.

These habits might seem random, but they’re often your cat’s way of telling you something.

The Rescue Kitten That Loves to Bike

After finishing a race in North Carolina, cyclist Sarah Arant heard rustling in the park bushes. Inside was a tiny black kitten, alone and clearly abandoned. Arant knew she couldn’t leave the kitten behind, but she wasn’t sure she could care for her either.

She tucked the kitten into her bike jersey and rode off to see if anyone nearby could help. Expecting some resistance, she was surprised when the kitten started purring, and kept purring the faster they went.

They biked around together until a man offered to foster the kitten temporarily. But within an hour, he texted Arant saying it was a foster fail. He and his wife had already fallen in love.

They named her Ryder, and she settled right in with their other cats. Arant wasn’t surprised. Ryder had been fearless from the start, happily zipping through the park like she belonged there all along.
