An Unstoppable Friendship

It’s not every day a cat takes charge of a neighborhood, but Oliver, the local feline boss, has made it his mission to befriend a dog named Gunner. After countless encounters where Oliver stalked Gunner on walks, often leading the pack like a furry little general, Gunner's owners finally gave in to the inevitable and installed a cat door just for him. Now, Oliver pops in whenever he pleases, exploring the house and carefully choosing the coziest napping spots as if he owns the place.

Now a regular visitor, Oliver has made himself right at home, scoping out the coziest napping spots and joining in on the family’s post-walk treat tradition. With tail taps that Gunner’s family swears are cat hugs, Oliver has cemented his place as an honorary member of the household. After all, he’s basically a dog, but with a bit more cattitude.

Chocolate Caramel Apple Kitties

Craving a sweet treat that's almost too cute to eat? These chocolate caramel apple cats are here to satisfy your sweet tooth with a little whiskered charm. And don’t worry about sharing, this recipe is for humans only.

Ingredients:

  • 6 large caramel apples

  • 14 oz dark chocolate, finely chopped

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream

  • 1 tbsp light corn syrup

  • 3 oz white modeling chocolate

  • 3 oz dark modeling chocolate

  • 1 oz pink yellow, and green modeling chocolate

Instructions:

  1. Place the chopped chocolate in a food processor and pulse until it becomes chocolate crumbs.

  2. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy whipping cream and corn syrup over medium heat. Stir until it begins to boil.

  3. Pour the hot cream into the food processor bowl over the chocolate. Allow it to sit for 2-5 minutes before pulsing to combine. Scrape down the sides and pulse for about 5 seconds.

  4. Allow the chocolate ganache to cool slightly in order to thicken to the consistency of frosting.

  5. Knead the modeling chocolate until it’s just soft enough to work with. Roll out the chocolate to about ⅛” thickness.

  6. Out of the dark modeling chocolate, cut out two larger triangles for the ears. The pupils of the eyes can also be cut from the dark chocolate.

  7. Cut out a small pink triangle for the nose and two larger triangles for the centers of the ears.

  8. Cut out two circles from the green modeling chocolate for the eyes.

  9. A few thin lines of white modeling chocolate can be used as whiskers.

  10. Frost the caramel apples with the cooled chocolate ganache. Use a spoon or offset spatula press into the ganache and pull away to create a furry look.

  11. Press the modeling chocolate into the ganache to attach the kitty’s facial features. The pieces of modeling chocolate can be attached to each other with a drop of water.

  12. Serve your cute kitty caramel apples to your favorite human cat lovers.

This New Toilet Paper Just Might Save the Planet

Every 24 hours, 27,000 trees are cut down to make toilet paper. To us, that feels like way too many — and Honeycomb agrees. That’s why this small, female-founded brand created luxury, three-ply toilet tissue made from bamboo. It feels just like regular high-end toilet paper but doesn’t harm trees.

So why bamboo? It’s the fastest-growing plant in the world — growing 100 times faster than the average tree — which means thousands of rolls can be produced in the time it takes for a single tree to grow back.

Even better? Code PURR30 will give new customers 30% off their first order for the next 24 hours.

Thank you to Honeycomb for sponsoring Daily Purr.

Why Cats Hate Closed Doors

If you’ve ever had the audacity to close a door in front of a cat, you’ve probably witnessed the dramatic show that follows: frantic pawing, agitated meowing, and maybe even a full-on attack. But why do cats seem to despise closed doors so much? Experts say it’s a mix of curiosity, control issues, and a serious case of FOMO (fear of missing out). Dr. Karen Sueda, a veterinary behaviorist, explains that cats just can’t stand not knowing what’s on the other side. They’re natural explorers, always needing to stay on top of what’s happening in their territory.

In fact, closed doors hit all of a cat’s "terrible C's." They hate not having choice, not being in control, and dealing with change, according to cat behavior consultant Ingrid Johnson. It’s not that they want to join the secret meeting you’re having behind the door; they just want the option to snoop. Add to that the fact that many cats would rather interact with their humans than play with toys or even eat, and you’ve got the perfect storm of kitty frustration. So, if your furry friend is throwing a fit, remember, it’s not about what’s behind the door, it’s about their need to know it all.

Final Meow

In the time it takes to read today’s edition, an estimated 93 trees will be cut down to meet toilet paper demand. Honeycomb is helping to change that with luxury, three-ply tissue made from sustainable bamboo. It’s biodegradable, plastic-free, and will be delivered straight to you.

New customers can use code PURR30 for 30% off their first shipment. Expires tonight.
