How One Cat Mom Built a Feline Paradise
When Hannah decided it was time to adopt a cat, she didn’t just prepare. She redesigned her Boston home for a future feline roommate. Her friend, who fosters rescue cats, introduced her to Agnes, a tuxedo stray who started out wary but quickly showed her sweet side. Within days, Agnes was confidently demanding attention and making herself at home.
Her new life began with a custom jungle gym mapped out with tape and research. Agnes sprinted across it instantly, treating the living room like her personal racetrack. Between high-speed laps, she perched on windowsills to “talk” to birds or launched herself from her cat tree onto Hannah’s shoulder with gymnast-level precision.
Her favorite hobbies include chasing wool balls, knocking fruit off counters, and soccer-dribbling avocados into her cat room. But the chaos comes with plenty of charm. Agnes now spends most days glued to Hannah’s side, snuggling, chatting, and finding new ways to be silly.
Once a stray with a tough edge, Agnes has grown into a playful, affectionate companion who fills the house with nonstop joy.

Your Cat’s Wellness Checklist Simplified
Cats are pros at hiding discomfort, which is why a little preventive care goes a long way. Simple habits done consistently can help your cat stay comfortable, healthy, and happy as they age.
Start with yearly vet visits, even if everything seems normal. Exams and routine tests can catch small issues long before they turn serious. Keeping up with vaccines, flea prevention, and deworming also protects your cat from everyday risks, even if they never step outside.
At home, wellness starts with the basics: a balanced diet, a healthy weight, and regular dental care. Many cats develop dental problems quietly, so brushing, dental treats, or vet cleanings make a real difference. Spaying or neutering adds long-term health benefits, too, lowering the risk of infections and certain cancers.
Most of all, pay attention to your cat’s habits. Changes in appetite, litter box use, or energy can be early signals. When something feels off, a quick check-in with your vet can keep small problems from growing. A little prevention truly keeps our whiskered friends thriving.

Help Your Cat Live A Longer Life
Cats are like family. And even though indoor cats stay away from outdoor dangers, there are still plenty of household hazards they can get into, sometimes without us ever noticing. As the end of the year approaches, it’s a good time to make sure your cat has the care they need for any unexpected emergencies next year and beyond.
The no-annual-fee Nibbles Pet Rewards Credit Card includes free pet insurance for one eligible cat, giving you extra protection when your cat decides to explore something they shouldn’t. It’s simple coverage and everyday rewards, all in one place.
Nibbles is not a bank. The Nibbles Card is issued by Lead Bank. Fees and T&C apply.

New Finding in the History of Cats
A new look at ancient cat DNA is reshaping what researchers thought they knew about how our house cats spread across the world. For years, scientists believed domesticated cats reached Europe about 6,000 years ago. But new genome analysis shows those early remains actually belonged to European wildcats, not the domesticated African wildcats our pets descend from.
Instead, domestic cats don’t appear in Europe until roughly 2,000 years ago, showing up in sites across the Roman Empire, including Italy, Serbia, Austria, and even Roman Britain. Researchers now think cats spread quickly by following Roman soldiers and settlers who valued them for pest control.
The study also highlights how little archaeological evidence exists for early cats. Unlike dogs or livestock, cats weren’t widely used for food or work, and their small bones can be harder to identify.
Though their domestication timeline is shorter and more complex than dogs, the findings show how closely cats traveled alongside humans (just on their own schedule, as always).
