Rescued Kitten Becomes Beloved Shop Cat
Royalty Auto Service wasnât expecting a rescue mission that day. But when a dealership reported a strange sound coming from a Mercedes-Benz, mechanic Sherwood Cooke Jr. listened and heard a faint cry coming from inside the engine.
After lifting the car and carefully reaching into the undercarriage, Cooke felt something soft: a frightened gray kitten, wedged tightly in the machinery. He spoke to her gently and slowly pulled her to safety.
The kitten, later named Mercedes, quickly won over everyone at the shop. Including the familyâs dog, Tink! He instantly treated her like a pup of her own. Now she splits her time between lounging in the garage and curling up at home with the familyâs other cat, Maggie May.
Despite her rough start, Mercedes adapted fast. Sheâs bold, affectionate, and has already claimed her spot as the garageâs new favorite coworker.

Does Baby Talk Work on Cats?
If youâve ever caught yourself cooing âwhoâs a good kitty?â in a high voice, science is on your side. A new study shows cats respond more to baby talk, but only when itâs coming from their owner.
Researchers in France tested 16 cats by playing audio recordings of their owners and strangers saying phrases like âDo you want a treat?â in both normal and high-pitched voices. The cats ignored strangers, even when they used baby talk. But when their owner switched to pet-directed speech, the cats noticeably perked up.
Their reactions, like ear twitches, pupil changes, and moving toward the sound, showed that cats not only recognize their personâs voice, but they also care how you speak to them. A sing-songy tone seems to strengthen the bond.
So go ahead, talk sweet to your cat. Theyâre definitely listening.

Breed Spotlight: Flame Point Ragdoll
Flame Point Ragdolls are known for two things: their size and their sweetness. These cats can weigh up to 20 pounds but carry themselves with a soft, floppy gentleness that makes them ideal lap companions. Theyâre affectionate, quiet, and strongly attached to their humans.
Kittens are born all white and develop red-orange markings over timeâtypically on their ears, tail, and face. Despite their long fur, they shed less than expected and rarely get mats thanks to their lack of an undercoat. Regular brushing helps keep things neat, but overall, grooming is easy.
They do best in calm homes and donât enjoy loud, chaotic environments. Theyâre sensitive around strangers but love to nap near their family members. While not highly active, they still benefit from scratching posts and toys to prevent boredom and weight gain.
If you want a gentle, loyal cat whoâs happiest when youâre home, a Flame Point Ragdoll might be your perfect match.
