In a delightful twist on the classic dogs vs. cats rivalry, a calico cat named Kiwi has proven that species differences are no match for a little bit of dog-like behavior. When Kiwi was adopted into a household already home to two dogs, Stephen and Yan, her new owners expected the usual cat antics. Instead, Kiwi immediately fit right in by mimicking the dogsā€™ behaviorā€”earning her a spot as the packā€™s honorary third dog.

From day one, Kiwi started copying the dogsā€™ commands, such as ā€œsitā€ and ā€œgive me your paw,ā€ although, true to her feline nature, she does these tricks only when it suits her. The trio has since become inseparable, playing together, sharing meals, and even taking baths side by side. Kiwi has formed a particularly strong bond with Stephan, the corgi, treating him like a furry brother.

Fans of the unlikely trio canā€™t get enough of their antics, with comments ranging from surprise at Kiwiā€™s seamless transition into dog life to praise for the sheer cuteness of this interspecies friendship. With this much cuteness and charm, itā€™s no wonder theyā€™ve taken over the internet.

Handmade Cat Harness

Ready to turn your feline friend into the next great explorer without them running up the nearest tree? Follow these purr-fectly simple steps to create a cat harness that will have your kitty strutting their stuff in styleā€”and maybe even taking a leisurely stroll without trying to make a run for it.

Supplies:

  • Two Ā¾ā€ buckles

  • Ā¾ā€ nylon webbing, any color

  • Two Ā¾ā€ tri-glide slides

  • D-ring

  • Lobster Clasp

Instructions:

  1. Cut three straps from the nylon webbing. For an average-sized cat, the neck strap should be about 20 inches. The back strap should be about 10 inches and the belly strap should be about 30 inches. These lengths can be adjusted to suit bigger or smaller kitties.

  2. Loop one tri-glide slide onto the end of the neck strap. Fold the strap over an inch and sew it together. Repeat with the second slide and the belly strap.

  3. Slide the pronged end of the buckle onto the neck strap before sliding the strap back through the tri-glide. Again, repeat with the belly strap.

  4. Slide the flat end of the buckle onto the other side of the neck strap and fold over an inch before sewing in place. Repeat with the belly strap.

  5. Buckle both straps and try them on your feline friend to make sure they fit. Adjust as needed.

  6. To attach the back strap, which will connect the neck and stomach straps, lay them out on a flat work surface. The neck and belly straps should be parallel to each other.

  7. Fold the top inch of the back strap over the neck strap and sew the two pieces together.

  8. Slide a D-ring onto the other end of the back strap before folding the top inch over the belly strap. The D-ring should be in the loop, along the side of the belly strap. Sew a square where the two straps meet to hold the D-ring in place.

  9. To make a matching leash, cut a length of nylon webbing to your desired length.

  10. Fold 8 inches of the strap over and sew it in place, creating a hand loop to hold the leash.

  11. At the other end of the strap, slide a lobster clasp on and fold the last inch of the strap over. Sew a square where the strap overlaps, holding the clasp in place.

  12. Get your kitty ready for adventure in his stylish new harness and leash.

Drama-Free Introductions

Introducing a new cat to your dog or vice versa is a bit like setting up a blind dateā€”things could go wonderfully, or they might need a little time to warm up. Just like humans, pets have their own personalities, and that first meeting can range from awkward to surprisingly friendly. The key is to take it slow, starting with a bit of isolation and some well-timed peeks at each other through a barely-cracked door. Donā€™t forget to reward positive interactions with plenty of tasty treats.

Once your pets are used to each otherā€™s scent and sight, it's time for the big face-to-face meeting. But donā€™t get your hopes too highā€”Rome wasnā€™t built in a day, and neither are pet friendships. The first meeting should be brief and sweet, with lots of treats and praise for good behavior. Gradually, as they become more comfortable, you can allow them to spend more time together. Remember, patience is key here; rushing things could lead to a feline freakout or a doggy dilemma. With enough positive reinforcement and careful supervision, your cat and dog might just become the best of friendsā€”or at least tolerate each otherā€™s existence with minimal drama.
