Researchers found that pets with "baby schema" features, like big eyes and small noses, made hosts seem warmer and more trustworthy. Participants shown listings with high-cuteness pets were more likely to book than those shown less cute animals. Cats, dogs, and rabbits ranked high; lizards, less so.

The effect didn’t hold for everyone. People with a stronger desire for uniqueness were less likely to be swayed by pet photos. But overall, a cute animal softened the psychological distance between guest and host.
