🐈 Celebrate Labor Day weekend with your cat

Friday 8/29: Sponsored by Petco - car rescue, cat trust, Svelte Oriental Shorthair

“Cats are living proof that rules are suggestions.”

Happy Friday:

True or False?

Cats sleep more as they age.

Lucky Chance Survives Against All Odds

When Fiona saw a gray cat struck by a truck in Ontario, she didn’t stop to think. Scooping him up, she raced to the nearest vet, fearing he wouldn’t survive. It was a heartbreaking moment, and she braced for the worst.

But just four days later, the call came: he’d made it. Not only that: he was on the mend and showing his sweet personality. With no microchip and no sign of his owners, Fiona knew what she had to do. She adopted him on the spot, giving him the name Lucky Chance.

Now, Lucky Chance is settling into his new home, staying in a separate space from Fiona’s Boxer, Link, while they adjust to each other.

Fiona has also launched a fundraiser to cover his medical bills and to thank the vet team who treated him without hesitation, even though he was a stray.

Does Your Cat Actually Trust You?

Cats may not write you a thank-you note, but they have their own subtle ways of showing trust. A confident upright tail, a slow “love blink,” or greeting you at the door all mean you’ve earned their approval.

Some signs are more unusual: like kneading your lap with their claws, gently headbutting you, or grooming you. These behaviors come from kittenhood and bonding rituals, and they signal safety and affection.

Others might surprise you. Presenting their belly or even their bottom, bringing you “gifts,” or chatting with friendly meows are all ways cats say you’re part of their inner circle.

The key? Every cat’s trust language is different, but once you learn their signals, you’ll realize just how much they value your bond.

Breed Spotlight: Svelte Oriental Shorthair

Sleek, long-legged, and brimming with personality, the Oriental Shorthair is a cat who knows how to make an entrance. With over 300 coat colors and patterns, they’ve earned the nickname “rainbow cat”, and they’re just as vibrant in personality as they are in looks.

These cats belong to the Siamese family, so you can expect the same love for conversation. Their vocal range is impressive, from cheerful chirps to the signature “honking” sound that gives them another nickname: the honking cat. They’re affectionate, people-oriented, and often happiest when shadowing you from room to room.

Playful and athletic, Orientals love climbing to high perches and showing off their acrobatic skills. They thrive in busy homes where they can engage with people and even other pets, especially if left alone time is kept to a minimum.

With their striking eyes, large ears, and sleek coat, Oriental Shorthairs are as much a visual statement as they are a lively companion. For those who love a cat with both style and substance, they’re hard to beat.
