How to Tell If Your Cats Are Playing or Fighting

Wondering if your cats are having fun or actually fighting? It can be tricky, especially in multi-cat households. Whether it's kittens wrestling or adult cats engaging in rough play, knowing the difference is key to keeping things calm and safe.

In healthy cat interactions, play fighting helps cats bond and practice their hunting skills. When they are playing, their body language is relaxed: ears forward, tails not puffed up, and no hissing or growling. Cats of all ages benefit from these social play sessions, but it’s important to watch for signs of overstimulation.

However, when the fun turns to fighting, the signs are obvious. Aggressive cats have dilated pupils, flattened ears, and growls or hisses. They may puff up their bodies and swat with claws extended. It’s essential to intervene before the tension escalates further.

To avoid fights, provide plenty of resources like litter boxes, scratching posts, and safe spaces for each cat. With the right setup and attention, your cats can enjoy playful moments without the risk of injury.

Meet Cat of the Day, Oscar

Meet Oscar, our next finalist for April Cat of the Month. He’s a seasoned gentleman with a heart full of sweetness and a purr that can be heard for miles! Though Oscar is a little older now, he’s still as affectionate and loving as ever. His owner, Linda, says his gentle nature and soothing purrs have made him an unforgettable companion.

How Chuck the Cat Became a Relay for Life Hero

Cancer affects more than just people. For Chuck, a cat found in a feral colony, it became a life-changing journey. After being diagnosed with a malignant tumor, Chuck underwent surgery and spent time recovering in a foster home. His story took an unexpected turn when a couple, both cancer survivors, decided to adopt him and give him a stable, loving home.

Chuck's adoption brought together two families united by a common struggle. The couple’s desire to provide Chuck with a peaceful life mirrored their own need for comfort after surviving cancer. They knew Chuck’s cancer might return, but they were committed to giving him the best quality of life possible.

At the Relay for Life event in Rockaway Beach, Oregon, Chuck made a special appearance alongside his adoptive family. His story became a symbol of hope and resilience, reminding everyone that no matter the size of the battle, survival and love can come in many forms.
