Two-Year Cat Custody Battle

In 2022, Aliya Zaydullina left her cat, Liza, with her friend Maria Senichkina while she traveled to Russia to care for her sick mother. What started as a short pet-sitting favor stretched into seven months, and that’s when things got complicated.

Senichkina believed the arrangement meant Liza would become her cat, especially after spending hundreds of dollars on food and vet bills. Zaydullina disagreed, saying she only extended the pet-sitting and never gave Liza away. The dispute eventually landed in Manhattan Civil Court.

On July 11, 2025, the court ruled in Zaydullina’s favor, citing her decade-long bond with Liza. She ordered Zaydullina to reimburse Senichkina for several months of care but suggested the two find a way for Senichkina to stay in Liza’s life.

Senichkina says she may appeal, meaning this cat custody saga might not be over.

Breed Spotlight: Tonkinese

With the elegance of a Siamese and the easygoing charm of a Burmese, the Tonkinese is a one-of-a-kind blend of brains, beauty, and affection. Their almond-shaped eyes, sometimes a rare aqua blue, seem to follow you everywhere. Not just because they’re curious, but because they truly want to be where you are.

Tonks are social butterflies. They’ll greet you at the door, “chat” with you about their day, and happily play fetch or master tricks. Their sleek, silky coats come in shades from warm champagne to deep sable, making them just as striking as they are sweet.

These cats do best in homes where someone’s around to enjoy their company. They don’t like being left out of the action. Give them attention, a good puzzle toy, and a comfy lap, and you’ve got a loyal, loving friend for life.

Gold Can’t Stop Breaking Records

Gold has been on a hot streak lately, increasing by 40% from the start of the year (and it doesn’t look like it’ll slow down). Why? Gold has historically thrived in uncertain markets, and you may have noticed we’re living in pretty uncertain times. Luckily, experts say there’s still plenty of room to grow. If you want in on the gold rush, check out Gold IRAs – they’re a good way to own physical gold, with the added IRA tax benefits.

Here’s how it works:

  • You can fund it by rolling over or transferring money from an existing IRA or 401(k).

  • The metals are stored in an IRS-approved depository.

  • Gains are tax-deferred (Traditional) or tax-free on qualified withdrawals (Roth).

Missing Cat Reunited With Family After a Year

When Smokey the cat slipped out of his Utah home last May, his family feared the worst. For months, they searched online, contacted shelters, and checked every lead, but nothing turned up. Smokey, a part of the Hernandez family for six years, had simply vanished.

Then, a year later, the phone rang. Alta Veterinary Hospital had scanned a microchip and found Smokey’s name. A stranger had been feeding him just a few blocks from home and finally coaxed him inside.

Not only did this Good Samaritan reunite Smokey with his family, he covered the cost of treating the cat’s painful ear infection (more than $900) without asking for anything in return.

The Hernandez family still doesn’t know who he is, but they’re hoping to meet him and say thank you face-to-face.
