🐈 Can a Robot Outsmart Your Cat? 🤖

Friday 10/18: Sponsored by Whisker - Kitten in a car wash, Ukrainian Levkoy, when cats stop growing, and a kitten with dwarfism

“Sharing space with another species is not always rosy, but with a cat, it is always interesting!”

― Debra M. Elderedge

Happy Friday! Here’s the scoop:

Did you know…

The Selkirk Rex was named in honor of ______________.

Saving Turbo Rinse

At an Ohio car wash, employees got more than they bargained for when they found a furry surprise in the turbo-blaster area. Kierra Mills, team lead at Ultimate Shine Car Wash, followed the sound of tiny meows during a routine inspection and discovered the kitten soaked to the whiskers and looking like he'd just been through the ultimate rinse cycle. Mills rushed him to the office for a quick towel-off, and little Turbo Rinse was saved from what must’ve felt like the world's worst water park ride.

Apparently, the little orange-and-white tabby had been hiding under a car, only to be blasted out by the wash’s jets when he least expected it. After his high-pressure adventure, Turbo Rinse was taken to the Fayette Regional Humane Society, where he's now getting all the TLC he deserves—including vaccines, neutering, and a much more gentle bath. He’ll soon be ready for adoption, and the staff reminds us all to check under our cars—you never know if a pint-sized passenger is hitching a ride to your next destination.

The Ukrainian Levkoy

With its signature hairless, wrinkled skin and inward-folding ears, the Ukrainian Levkoy looks like it stepped right out of a futuristic pet fashion show. Their slender, muscular bodies may look like they just left the gym, but don't be fooled—they're snuggly lap-cats at heart. Levkoys are known for their affectionate and playful nature, always up for a game of pounce or a good cuddle session. They're social butterflies too, and tend to get along well with humans and other pets.

The Levkoy has a history as unique as its appearance. The breed was first developed in Ukraine in the early 2000s by crossing hairless Donskoy cats with Scottish Folds, giving them their distinctively folded ears and hairless bodies. Breeder Elena Biriukova wanted to create a cat that combined these striking features, and she succeeded in creating a breed that’s equal parts adorable and eccentric. Since then, Ukrainian Levkoys have charmed their way into the hearts of cat enthusiasts worldwide with their oddball looks and lovable personalities. They're proof that beauty comes in all forms—even wrinkly ones.

When Do Cats Reach Adulthood?

Just like us, our feline companions go through some major body changes, from losing those baby teeth to hitting their growth spurts. But unlike us, they don’t have to wait until they’re 18 to be considered fully grown. Typically, cats reach their full height around one year old—so your cat is basically a teenager in human years, with all the attitude that entails. However, some breeds, like the Maine Coon, take their sweet time and won’t hit their full size until they’re two.

And just like a buffet affects our waistlines, a cat’s size can be influenced by their diet, gender, and breed. So, while a pint-sized Singapura might weigh only 5 pounds, you could be wrestling a 20-pound Maine Coon, depending on your kitty’s genetic background. As they mature, their mischievous kitten antics tend to mellow out, transforming them into the chill adults we all know and love.

But if you’re trying to figure out your kitten’s age, just check the scale. You can estimate a kitten's age by its weight—every month equals about one pound. So, if you’ve got a three-pound furball, congratulations, you’ve got a three-month-old kitty. But once they hit six months, the guessing game gets trickier, and you might need to start asking for their birth certificate.

A Tiny Miracle

Once a scrappy little feral navigating the concrete jungle of a gas station, a tiny kitty named Toothless hit the jackpot when she was scooped up and welcomed into a loving home. With her stubby legs and adorable round paws, Toothless zips around like a cheetah on espresso, leaving a trail of giggles and admiration. Now a social media sensation, she enchants her fans on Instagram with her sunny spots and epic indoor adventures. Tiny Toothless proves that even the smallest creatures can leave the biggest pawprints on our hearts.
