How Bodega Betty Found Her Forever Home
A cat who wandered into a small market in Harrisonburg, Virginia, recently found a permanent home after capturing the attention of the community online. The cat, now known as Bodega Betty, was discovered outside a nearby bank drive-thru and brought inside Midtowne Market by owner Lauren Penrod.
Penrod shared photos of the cat on social media in hopes of finding the owner or a potential adopter. She also asked followers to help choose a name through a poll, offering options including Bodega Betty, Xena Princess Warrior, and Hot Dog.
The name Bodega Betty won the vote, and the friendly cat quickly became a small local celebrity online. Soon after, one of Penrod’s friends stepped forward to adopt her.
Penrod said she was happy to see the cat find a safe home and planned to meet the new owner at the veterinarian to say goodbye.

What It Means When Cats Skip Burying
Most cats instinctively bury their waste, but some skip the step entirely. While it can surprise cat owners, this behavior is not always a problem. In the wild, burying waste helps cats hide their presence from predators or avoid conflict with dominant animals.
Sometimes the opposite behavior can signal confidence or territory marking. In multi-cat households, a cat may leave waste uncovered as a way of signaling dominance or announcing its presence to other cats in the area.
Litter box setup can also play a role. Cats may avoid covering their waste if the box is too small, the litter texture feels unpleasant, or the box is not clean enough to comfortably dig around.
Health and comfort can also influence the behavior. Cats experiencing pain, sensitive paws, or discomfort may avoid digging in the litter. If the behavior suddenly changes, it can help to review the litter box setup or check with a veterinarian to rule out possible health issues.

Meet Cat of the Day, Ollie
Meet Ollie, the first finalist for April Cat Of The Month, sent in by Daily Purr reader Mary.
Ollie carries himself with a regal presence around the house, often keeping a watchful eye on everything happening in his domain. But despite the dignified look, he’s also a very sweet companion who makes sure Mary never forgets his daily snuggle time.
He’s also developed a reputation as the home’s flower admirer. Ollie loves sitting near bouquets and carefully inspecting them — always appreciating the view without taking a bite.
And if a spider dares appear? Ollie is quick to step into his role as household protector.
