Kitten Refuses to Leave Skeleton’s Side
Gravy arrived as a tiny gray kitten with a big personality, joining her dad Pip and older sister Nym. She quickly cycled through her signature modes (“screaming time,” “goblin time,” and “loving time”), each one louder and funnier than the last. Nothing, though, prepared Pip for the moment she met a three-foot-tall plastic skeleton.
Instead of running, Gravy walked right up, sniffed the bony hand, and gently pressed her head into it like she’d found a long-lost friend. From that moment on, she followed the skeleton everywhere, weaving between its legs and asking for pets from a hand that couldn’t move.
Pip moved the skeleton to her favorite window, and Gravy happily settled in beside it.
Her history makes the whole thing even sweeter: Gravy has been scared of everything from a water fountain to a crab rangoon. Yet this spooky decoration? Instant comfort. The unlikely friendship stuck, and now the skeleton stays up year-round because Gravy wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Real Story of Unsinkable Sam
Unsinkable Sam’s story sounds like a tall tale, but it’s one of the most enduring legends from WWII. The black-and-white cat first appeared aboard the German battleship Bismarck, where more than 2,000 crew members served. When the ship sank, rescuers later found Sam floating on debris, alive and surprisingly calm.
He was taken aboard the British destroyer HMS Cossack, unknowingly switching sides. Months later, when the Cossack was struck by a torpedo, Sam survived again, clinging to a plank until crew members pulled him to safety.
Transferred once more, Sam joined the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal, the same ship involved in sinking the Bismarck. When Ark Royal was torpedoed and lost, Sam was rescued for a third time, “angry but unharmed,” according to accounts.
At that point, Sam retired from sea life and lived comfortably on land, spending his remaining years in Belfast. Whether every detail is perfectly accurate or part legend, his story endures for a reason. Unsinkable Sam represents resilience, luck, and the unmistakable talent cats have for staying alive against the odds.

Meet Cat of the Day, Pierre
Meet Pierre, Daily Purr reader Mary’s wonderfully talkative lavender point Siamese. Eight years ago, he arrived as a skinny, cross-eyed little rescue who looked more like a coyote than a cat, but he’s grown into the fluffiest, sweetest, most affectionate companion she’s ever had.
Pierre has an opinion about everything and isn’t shy about sharing it, but he delivers every comment with love (and plenty of floof). From couch lounging to heartfelt conversations, this handsome boy has truly become the heart of his home.
Thanks to Mary for sharing her gorgeous guy! Want your cat featured next? Send in your favorite photo and story for a chance to be in Daily Purr.
