A Loyal Cat and Her Brave Sister

Wheatie the cat doesn’t like strangers, but she adores Zelda. The black cat is fiercely loyal to her 19-month-old sister, who was born blind. Whether Zelda is crawling down the hall or cuddling on the couch, Wheatie is right there—gently rubbing her legs or curling up by her side.

Zelda was diagnosed with detached retinas as a newborn, and the news came after an initial cancer scare. Through it all, Wheatie never flinched. She was the only pet who stayed close when Zelda came home, and she patiently lets her touch her face, ears, and tail.

The two now share everything, even a pillow. At night, Zelda won’t settle until Wheatie joins her in bed.Soon, Zelda will get her first mobility cane—but for now, she’s got Wheatie.

Cat of the Day, Licorice

Meet Licorice, the sleek and sweet heartthrob of Daily Purr reader Noemi’s household. Rescued from a local shelter four years ago, Licorice has since become a beloved part of the family—with just the right balance of affection and independence.

He’s known for being cuddly when he wants to be, and an absolute pro at lounging outdoors while stalking squirrels, birds, and the occasional lizard. When he’s not on the hunt, you can often find him relaxing on a lap, simply soaking up the sights.

Noemi says they’re beyond thrilled Licorice joined their family—and we can see why!

Why is My Cat Drinking Out of the Toilet?

If your cat keeps heading for the toilet like it’s their personal water fountain, you’re not alone. Some cats are drawn to the cool porcelain, moving water, and shady bathroom corners that feel safe and quiet.

Running toilet water also stays oxygenated, which makes it seem fresher than a lukewarm bowl by the food dish. But curiosity might be part of it too—cats who like watching faucets may also be intrigued by toilet swirls.

It could even be a health issue. Excessive thirst is a symptom of conditions like diabetes or kidney disease.

Try a water fountain, or place cool, clean bowls in quiet spots around your home. And if you're still catching them mid-sip, just close the lid.
